Protein sequence and structure alignments. Sequence alignment between template sequence (yeast casein kinase 1) and CK1α shows 45.5% sequence identity. Protein structure alignment using DALI[36] between cAMP dependent kinase (1ATP)[19] and yeast casein kinase (1CSN)[18] shows that the critical residues which are highlighted in blue are topologically equivalent. The substrate interacting residues in ck1α is highlighted in yellow and its structurally equivalent substrate interacting residues as proposed by the crystal structure study of yeast casein kinase 1 is highlighted in green. This figure was produced using JOY[37].
