Arg71 supports different crystal packing in DEL-II relative to DEL-I. Arg71 of DEL-II projects from the A-chain molecule and interacts with the B-chain molecule by packing against Arg97 and hydrogen-bonding Asp101. It also coordinates a chloride ion (pink ball and mesh), which sits at the interface between neighboring molecules. The green mesh represents composite omit map electron density (contoured at 1 standard deviation above the mean), whilst pink mesh represents an anomalous difference map (contoured at 3 standard deviations above the mean). Sticks coloured grey belong to a symmetry related molecule within the crystal lattice
