ZmALDH2B2/RF2A structural subunit is color coded to distinguish the oligomerization domain (red), coenzyme domain (blue) and the catalytic domain (yellow). Part of the common strands and helices in the Rossmann type fold that integrate the NAD(P)+ coenzyme pocket is highlighted in orange and green color. The Cys311 (purple) and Glu278 (green) amino acids, which interact with the aldehyde substrate and drive the ALDH enzymatic reaction is depicted in the spherical shapes.
