Modification of membrane lipid order by Aβ(1–42) oligomers. Lipid order as reported by laurdan GP analysis ("laurdan GP") is low in POPC liposomes reconstituted with or without the peptide, but the GP values are much higher in the presence of 30 mol% cholesterol, consistent with phospholipids in mixed liquid ordered (Lo) and liquid disordered (Ld) phases. The disorder decreases significantly in liposomes reconstituted in the presence of Aβ(1–42) but not Aβ(42–1). All the data are means ± SD of 6 independent experiments carried out at 25°C.
